IMG_6468The 3rd and final round of Mountain Madalas 2016, sponsored by Michelin and held in the chilly but stunning mountain kingdom of Lesotho, was another huge success. More than 150 riders braved the cold and were rewarded with awesome riding, amazing views of the Maluti Mountains and lots of fun and laughter.

Brilliant goodie bags were provided to each rider, with the cool draw-string bags, an Enduro World/ Michelin neck tube and a spray bottle of bike cleaner from Michelin, a Monster Energy drink, a Snickers chocolate bar, a PVM energy bar, latex gloves (worn inside gloves to keep hands warm in the early morning), a HazClean Environmental bag and a magazine. Also included was a brochure on Michelin’s new STARCROSS 5 TYRES which have just been launched.

Pressure Cooker – the local opportunists were there to help … or make a quick buck

The very slippery river on Zuma’s Revenge caught more than a few riders out

The main MADALAS route of 35 km’s was the most popular route of the day, but quite a few riders braved the 45 km EXTREME route while several junior riders and even brand new lady riders took on the 14 km GREEN route. None of the routes were a walk in the park but the MADALAS route included tough passes like PRESSURE COOKER and ZUMA’S REVENGE, whilst the EXTREME route included those as well as down MAD COW and up BLACK NECK PASS. Only 1 rider, Andre Roodt, achieved a GOLD MEDAL for 3 laps of the Extreme route – quite a few managed GOLD for a mixture of routes though – well done to all.
